Jeffrey Gertz started Diamond Window Cleaning in October of 1992. With a B.A. in Communications at Taylor University, Jeff utilized his skills of entrepreneurship and sales ability to launch a new venture. Being called “Mr. Clean” his entire childhood, he decided he better capitalize on his strengths. It was actually a whim that he came across the window cleaning idea. Being single and in hot pursuit to accomplish the American Dream, he came across a gentleman whom he recognized at a few business seminars. This guy had a special needs child who had been in his sophomore year in high school and wondered if he could ever go to college. He and his dad started a small window cleaning route. The few accounts the boy serviced every week for two solid years were the key to his college education. He saved enough money in two years to pay for his college experience. That was enough to get Jeff’s attention. So Jeff kindly asked…”What is the boy going to do when he leaves town?” “Well, he wants to sell it,” the man exclaimed. “How much does he want?” To make a long story short, Jeff bought the business for $25 that day. What a steal and a crazy way to buy a business. Jeff turned it into a full time venture in less than a week. It is amazing what people can do with a dream and a will to win.
“There was no turning back,” said Jeff. “I was like a kid in a candy store, and window cleaning became my passion. Believe it or not, I never get tired of doing this. One man’s frustration is another man’s dream.” After six years of building a base, Jeff got married to Melissa. After being married for a few months, reality hit. “Uh oh, it’s time to build a real business.” The family owned and operated company eventually had morphed into a serious enterprise. “Our Christian values are what guide us. If we can’t do it right, we won’t do it.” That has paid large dividends for not only peace of mind, but long-term customer satisfaction. “We are a customer service company that just happens to do windows!” Along with Melissa’s intuition, Jeff developed a systematic approach to the business to retain the high quality standards he worked so hard for and the mentorship of the staff to develop personal relationships with the customers.
Diamond Window Cleaning was rewarded for that mentorship when one of their top technicians was nominated for International “Window Cleaner of the Year” by the IWCA in 2011. Dave Rambo won the award and was privileged to go out to Reno, NV to attend the annual convention and enjoy a 5 Star hotel for a few days. This was a testament to Jeff and Melissa’s commitment to excellence and integrity.
